1. Is Anti-Executable like an anti-virus / anti-spyware solution?

Anti-Executable protects against all executable viruses. An antivirus program will detect smaller infractions in macros and scripts, which are not executables, and therefore are not blocked by Anti-Executable.

3. Is there a method for turning off Anti-Executable all at once so that an entire lab can be upgraded or new software installed without going to each machine?

Anti-Executable Enterprise is controlled centrally from Faronics Core Console. This console can be used to protect, unprotect, update, and view your Anti-Executable installed workstations. More detail on Faronics Core Console can be found in the users guide available for download from:
http://www.faronics.com/html/library.asp

Anti-Executable Standard does not include any inherent remote management utilities. Customers that require remote administrative abilities should investigate Anti-Executable Enterprise.

4. If I currently have Group Policies in place, will it still offer any benefits?

Although Group Policy is widely used to restrict users, it has the following limitations:
  • needs constant policy updates
  • has good control over Microsoft programs, but doesn’t control others very well
  • Administrators accounts are still vulnerable to unwanted / unlicensed software
  • might not restrict unwanted / unlicensed software installations if users log in locally
  • can be counterproductive for users if computer is excessively locked down
In summary, Group Policy hardens a system; Anti-Executable adds teeth, but doesn’t require additional software updates to protect against blended threats or day-zero executable attacks.
